UPDATES AS
OF JUNE 26, 2008:
We have submitted testimony
to the City Council Public Health, Safety and Welfare Committee hearing
for 6/26/08
there is the possibility that Honolulu DPR will open public hearings on
proposed changes to shorewaters rules. The current
1991 rules are still in effect and there was a push to revise them
in 2001 (2001
draft rules here) and now there is another draft (2007
draft rules here) that needs to be heavily changed prior to being
adopted by the city.

** On February 26 2007, we submitted a reply to the Mayor's
letter (directed to the city council) in the form of testimony
via email
to the City Council committee (Public Health, Safety and Welfare)
concerning resolution
07-055; the Public
Hearing was postponed due to mass
transit hearing running over.
** On Mar 26 2007 we submitted a Proposal
as an addendum to our previous testimony to the City Council committee
(Public Health, Safety and Welfare)
concerning resolution
07-055; the Public Hearing was postponed due to lack of quorum.
** Additionally, we have created a page on the ORIGIN of the
Pipeline Bodysurfing Classic as well as our historical results site.
Note: we are seeking any information on
previous events noted on the historical results site.

Water Event permit from the
City and County of Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation. The
Letter received is shown here. The City rules
are here.
Here
Is the Cover Letter for the Permit Application.
We Contacted the City of Honolulu and requested documents regarding the
City and County of Honolulu
Department of Parks and Recreation "Conflict Resolution" process (used
to determine which applicants receive permits).
Our requests were made in the form of a Hawaii State Office of
Information Request. We received numerous documents.
The
ranking form of events is shown here. The
list of event applicants is here and the
final calendar is here.
Please find the Letter
to the Mayor of Honolulu (Honorable Mufi
Hanneman), the response
from Mayor Hanneman is here
and a
letter to the Mayor from the City Council Chair Donovan Dela
Cruz is here.
We are currently asking that bodysurfers and other concerned
individuals and organizations Please NOT contact the City
and County of Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation office.
Instead, we are asking interested bodysurfers and other concerned
people to become involved in the process that the
city (of Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation) uses to determine
which events are offered shore water permits.
We are in the process of forming a committee who is well briefed on the
legal and bureaucratic issues involved will be
circulating information regarding efforts to prevent this problem
from resurfacing in the NEAR future.
Additionally, we are seeking additional legal assistance familiar with
the issues involving procedure, administrative
appeal issues and possible discrimination by an agency in the State of
Hawaii.
Finally, we are involved in establishing an international organization
with domestic and local offices in Hawaii to act
as an advocate regarding bodysurfing issues.
Thank You
